Question

Geolocation keeps failing even tho im literally in the state

ok so im sitting in my apartment in jersey city, wifi on, location on, and the app keeps telling me it cant verify my location. tried restarting my phone like 4 times. i had a same game parlay i wanted in before the eagles game and missed the kickoff because of this garbage. is this a known thing or is my phone cursed

can confirm the "always" permission thing. i had mine on "ask next time" like an idiot for 3 weeks. flipped it and haven't had a single fail since. also turn off battery optimization for the app, android loves killing background stuff

wait does bluetooth actually matter? support told me to turn bluetooth on and i thought they were just reading a script

nah thats real. on ios especially, the geo software uses nearby bluetooth/wifi signals to triangulate and to check that theres no weird spoofing device nearby. sounds dumb but i tested it, bluetooth off = fail about half the time for me, bluetooth on = fine

fwiw the geolocation isn't the sportsbook itself, its a third party compliance thing (geocomply for most of them). so when it breaks its usually that plugin, not the book. NJ DGE requires them to pin you inside state lines before every wager, thats why it re-checks constantly

so what happens if youre on a train going from newark to philly mid-bet? does it just void everything

it wont void a bet thats already accepted. once it goes through its through. it just blocks you from placing NEW wagers until youre back in a legal state. i take the acela a lot and it basically nags me the whole ride, cash out button also greys out which is way more annoying tbh

one thing nobody mentions: if your phone clock is set manually instead of automatic network time it can fail the check. found that on a support forum after 2 hours of troubleshooting

mac users, if youre on desktop, the geocomply browser extension needs mac location services enabled at the system level AND for your browser specifically. two separate toggles. took me embarrassingly long

anyone had this happen only at one specific location? works fine at home, fails every single time at my office in hoboken

probably corporate wifi. a lot of office networks route traffic through a gateway in another state or use a proxy, which the geo check reads as spoofing. get off the office wifi and use LTE, should clear right up

lol mine works everywhere except my own kitchen

i'll add that i had a case where none of the usual fixes worked and it turned out to be a bad app cache after an ios update. full delete, restart phone, reinstall, log back in. lost maybe 15 min but it fixed it. i also stopped using wifi entirely for betting, cellular is just more reliable for the pin. and if it still fails, take a screenshot with the timestamp and the error code, support actually needs that code otherwise they just send you the same generic checklist over and over

for the record the error codes do mean different things. one is "no location found", one is "vpn/proxy detected", one is "you appear to be outside the boundary". if you tell support the code instead of just saying "it doesnt work" you get a real answer way faster

OP here. it was the vpn. i had nordvpn on split tunneling from setting up my work laptop weeks ago and completely forgot. killed it, reinstalled the location helper, permission on always, worked instantly. missed a $40 parlay that would've paid like $310 over this so im still a little sick about it but at least it's fixed. thanks all
