Yeah this happened to me last month too. Jersey as well. Turned out my wifi was routing through some weird server that made it look like I was out of state. Switching to LTE fixed it immediately. The location stuff these apps use is super finicky

For what it's worth, most betting apps use a combination of GPS, WiFi triangulation, and IP geolocation. If any one of those signals is off, it can trigger the out-of-state error. Some apps are more aggressive about it than others due to compliance requirements. The geofencing tech they use isn't perfect.

wait does this mean if im near the border of my state it might think im in a different one? like if i live close to PA could that be causing issues?

yeah absolutely thats a thing. if ur within like a mile or two of a state border it can get confused sometimes. i live near the CT border and have to walk to the other side of my apartment sometimes lmao. sounds dumb but it works

does anyone know if using a work vpn causes this? like i work from home and my company requires us to have vpn running all day

100% yes. work vpn will absolutely cause this. most corporate vpns route your traffic through servers that could be anywhere. you gotta disconnect from it before opening any betting apps or theyll think youre in like texas or whatever. just turn it off, open app, place bets, then reconnect

Fwiw I've also seen this happen after phone updates. Something about iOS 17 broke location permissions for a bunch of apps and you had to go back in and re-enable everything manually. Worth checking if you updated recently.

can confirm the gps/wifi thing. had exact same problem, was connected to my neighbors wifi by accident (we share the password lol) and his router was registered to a different address or something. switched back to my own network and boom worked instantly. these apps are really picky about location stuff
